Music Changed My Life

"All of my music is expressions of my experience... about what I've gone through. One book that changed my life was Maya Angelou's, "I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings." It wasn't until I read that book that I realized I wasn't a victim anymore." - Shelita

Shelita uses music to express her experiences–experiences she thinks people can relate to and about what she’s gone through. Once depressed and frustrated as a former foster youth, Shelita grew up in and out of the Los Angeles foster care system. Today, the internationally recognized singer-songwriter and musician opens up about her life and foster care experience.
