The cost of instability, moving from place to place, and not being able to make connections, were some of the reasons Genesis chose to live apart from her family and remain in foster care. She leaned into high school, excelling at academics and extracurricular activities. Genesis’ film is part of the Youth Voices Video Project, a collection of foster youth-produced films from PBS SoCal’s To Foster Change.
Genesis is 21 years old and in her third year at Cal State Fullerton. She is majoring in Communications with an emphasis in Broadcasting, and a minor in Human Services with an emphasis in Social Work. She is a passionate advocate for foster youth and is involved with California Youth Connection, an organization that advocates for changes in policy and legislature to improve the foster care system. Genesis is excited to start building her legacy to inspire other resilient warriors to be agents of change in their own lives and the lives of others.
